PROMOTION and relegation issues were confirmed at the MacWhirter Welsh League's AGM at Corus Steel Football Club. Conjecture that Barry Town were going to withdraw from the league as the club is up for sale came to nothing. The Dragons have decided to soldier on at Jenner Park under the direction of their supporters' club, resulting in relegation for Cwmamman United, South Gower, Porthcawl Town Athletic and Cwmbran Town. Gwent County League champions Undy Athletic along with South Wales FA nomination Bridgend Street were both welcomed on board. In the top flight, Haverfordwest County replace Afan Lido, who have replaced the Pembrokeshire side in the Welsh Premier League. That brings the league down to the 48 clubs the Welsh FA stipulated two years ago. An operating profit was announced for the year of £657, down £6,482 on the previous season. Last summer several clubs mounted a legal challenge in respect of relegation, and the infighting led to the league spending almost £4,500 in fees to solicitors. Among the rule changes, the most interesting will allow member clubs to share a ground, provided there is written agreement and floodlight facilities. |
