Celtic in search for new manager
Wednesday 14 September 2011
CWMBRAN Celtic are searching for a new manager following Sunday's resignation by Alan Dibble, who only lasted eight league and cup games after his pre-season appointment, writes Terry Daley.
There were many raised eyebrows when Celtic named Dibble, who had previously spent a season in charge of the club when they were in the Gwent County League, because he had spent a considerable amount of years away from the game .
The club issued the following statement on Sunday afternoon: "It is with regret that the club has to announce the resignation of Manager, Alan Dibble.
"After yesterday's disastrous 3-0 defeat to Division Two side Dinas Powys in the Nathaniel League Cup, it was obvious to all parties that things weren't right and having slept on things, Alan decided to resign this morning (Sunday).
"He informed the club that, in hindsight, he realised that maybe he had been too long out of the game and that the position should probably be filled by a younger man."
"The club would like to thank Alan for his contribution to the team and express their sadness that things didn't work out.
"Coach Della Cheedy will take control of the team until a replacement for Alan is found.
"Chairman, Bob Smith, said that the club will now take it's time in making an appointment to try to make sure we get the right person."
In his brief spell in charge, Dibble led Celtic to the top of Division One for the first time in the club's history and they will start Saturday's home league game against West End in fifth place.
