WEST End registered a 4-2 win over Caerau Ely at Pryderi Park to remain second in MacWhirter Welsh League Division One. It allowed the Westenders to move to within a point of Cambrian & Clydach, who were surprisingly held to goalless draw by bottom club Cardiff Corries. Sam Brown gave the Swansea side the lead, with a Rory Smitham free-kick setting up a goal for his brother Carl. Though the Cardiff side pulled back to 2-1 at the break, further strikes from Brown and Matt Dowling saw them safely home. Goytre United pulled off a handsome 4-1 victory over promotion-seeking Bridgend Town at the Brewery Field. Jacob Daly shot Goytre ahead from the penalty spot with the Brewery boys levelling via Sam Small. But right on half-time, Paul Jones gave Goytre back the lead, and they sealed the win through substitute Richard French and Craig Steins. Though Pontardawe went ahead early on through a Luke Borelli penalty at Taffs Well, goals from Dean Hudson and a 92nd-minute effort from Adnan Hiroli condemned them to a 2-1 loss. Champions Bryntirion also scored first at AFC Porth — Simon Prangley netting — only for the Rhondda side to win 3-1 on the back of goals from Adam Wright (two) and Christian Wells. |
