New arrivals boost Bluebirds' boss James
Friday 28 October 2011
Jonathan KiftAFTER a dreadful start to the campaign, the arrival of Leighton James as director of football has certainly changed fortunes for the better for Haverfordwest County.
The Bluebirds, relegated from the Welsh Premier last season, notched their second consecutive win at Cardiff Corries last weekend with goals from recent signing Jonathan Kift and Nicky Woodrow.
Haverfordwest knew it was important to clinch the points against a team that is currently sitting at the foot of the table and James said: "We’re slowly but surely getting there but, make no mistake, the team is nowhere near the finished article."
Over the last few weeks, the former Llanelli manager has signed players of the calibre of Kift, Andrew Mumford and Owen Thomas, with Chris O'Sullivan, Richard Ryan, Alex Galdo all departing the Bridge Meadow.
"Players come and go at any club," added James. "The players I’ve brought in are better quality than the ones that have left. It’s as simple as that.
"But like any other football club you have work within the financial constraints, and your aims have got to be realistic."
How is James enjoying life at the Meadow?
"I’m a football man, that goes without saying. Nobody is above learning and I learn something new every day."
