Bulldogs' fightback stuns Goytre
Thursday 05 March 2009
TON Pentre stopped reigning MacWhirter Welsh League champions Goytre United from taking over at the top with a 5-3 win on Wednesday night.
The Goyts, who were missing both centre-backs - captain Darren Lyons and Ian Morgan - through suspensions, led their Ynys Park hosts 3-1 at half-time with goals from Thomas Meiring, Steve Conaty and a Robbie Walters penalty.
But the second-half saw a complete turnaround, with the Rhondda Bulldogs netting four goals without reply from Chris Jones (two), Philip Clark, Liam Hutchinson and ex-Afan Lido striker Ian Jones.
Although the defeat left the visitors trailing leaders Barry Town by three points, they still have four games in hand on the Dragons.
Two goals from Nana Baah and a Brian Burke strike set up a comfortable 3-0 home win for Bryntirion over Caldicot.
