THE 2003/4 season was a good one for both Cwmbran Town and Croesyceiliog, writes Terry Daley. The Crows were flying high in the UEFA Cup while Croesy enjoyed life as MacWhirter Welsh League Division Three debutants. The intervening years have been far kinder to Croesyceiliog than they have to Cwmbran, but both clubs are currently on the crest of a slump and are staring relegation to Division Two in the face. The town rivals clash at Cwmbran Stadium tomorrow when even victory could be little more than a short reprieve from the hangman’s noose while defeat will almost certainly mean an eventual drop through the trap door. The Crows are the only side below Croesyceiliog, both having 12 points from 23 and 22 matches respectively, and the duo trail county rivals Caerleon, who are in the first safety position of 16th, by eight points. Six years ago, Cwmbran were playing Maccabi Haifa in the Uefa Cup. |
