GOYTRE United are in pole position to retain their Welsh League crown after a 3-0 home win over Gwent visitors Croesyceiliog.Goytre took a 16th-minute lead after a Robbie Walters effort rebounded off the bar and Daniel Thomas rifled the ball home. And just three minutes from the break, a pass from Ryan Shugar found Jacob Daly, who slotted home into an empty net. It remained 2-0 until the 84th minute, when Jonny Walkley and Daniel Thomas engineered a 38th goal of the season for Walters. Towards the end both Thomas and a member of the Croesyceiliog management team were shown red cards. Second-placed ENTO Aberaman maintained the pressure with a 3-2 home win over struggling Newport YMCA. The Cynon Valley outfit established a two-goal lead through Anthony Taylor (pictured) and Mark Crutch, before Leon Spargo replied for YM. Richard Ryan restored the two-goal cushion, but an Olly Beckett goal made it a tense finish for the hosts, who must now hope that the Goyts slip-up at Cardiff Corries on Wednesday night and then win their final game at Dinas Powys on Saturday if they are to clinch the title. |
