GWENT duo Newport YMCA and Croesyceiliog seem certain to be relegated to Division Two of the MacWhirter Welsh League, along with former Welsh Premier outfit Cwmbran Town. The pair were hoping that ENTO Aberaman would be granted promotion to the top flight after recently securing a required top-two finish. That would have led to only two teams going down with the club finishing second from bottom – currently YMCA – earning a reprieve. However, before Saturday’s clash, ENTO officials informed their YMCA counterparts that their Aberaman Park ground had failed a recent Welsh Premier inspection because of floodlighting problems. “They told us that they are going to appeal, but they haven’t even had any floodlights delivered yet,” said YMCA boss Mark Coldrick, after watching his side lose 3-2. “We live in hope, but it looks like the final nail in the coffin. They told us before the game and to be honest, things were always going to be flat for us during the match. “We’ve finished our fixtures, so we’ll simply take whatever comes our way, and if it means we will have to regroup at the lower level, then that’s what we will do.” |
