| Dyer discovers a gem for Neath |

ON-LOAN Grimsby Town striker Chris Jones made an immediate impact in Neath colours, scoring a first-half hat-trick in the 3-2 defeat of Porthmadog. "I've known Chris and his family since he was a boy and watched his progress," said Eagles' manager Andrew Dyer. "When he became available I had no hesitation in moving for him. He is a lethal finisher, as he showed today. "Chris was the difference between the sides and I thought he, Kevin Cooper and Kristian James, who were also making their debuts, were our three best players. "We've got to improve. I've now got 20 players so expect a rotation system over the coming weeks when we have a glut of matches, starting with Aberystwyth on Tuesday." A third successive victory at Aberystwyth was just what the doctor ordered for Carmarthen manager Deryn Brace. Goals from Tim Hicks and Kris Thomas secured the points and Brace said: "We have to improve our home results. Most of our performances have been good but results are what we are lacking. "Perhaps it's fortunate our next two matches are away, but what I'm looking for now is consistency. "The season starts now. What has gone on before we need to forget," he added. Rhyl manager Greg Strong was also handed a tonic with a 4-1 win over Gap Connah's Quay after a turbulent week off the field at Belle Vue. "All the lads have to take a lot of credit for what happened out there today," said player-manager Strong, who dropped himself from the starting line-up. "It’s been a tough week, but they went out there and delivered. We played some great stuff from the start, creating a lot of chances and although we turned a lot down, it was pleasing to score four goals."
