| Valentine's Day massacre at Llanelli |
| Sunday 14 February 2010 |
WELSH Premier leaders Llanelli carried out a Valentine's Day massacre as they beat lowly Porthmadog 5-0 at Stebonheath Park. Chris Venables led the way with a brace, with Stuart Jones, Chris Holloway and Stephen Evans also on the scoresheet as the Reds maintained their four-point lead at the top. The visitors ended the game with 10-men after central defender John Keegan was sent-off for a second yellow card on 73 minutes. Second-placed The New Saints were forced to fight back from a goal down at home to Bangor City, after former TNS midfielder Nicky Ward had set-up Jamie Reed for 53rd-minute goal. But a foul by Michael Johnston on Matthew Berkeley enabled Scott Ruscoe to level from the penalty spot and sub Alex Darlington fired a 12-yard winner eight minutes from time. Two late goals gave Rhyl a 4-2 home success against Newtown, who led 2-1 in the first-half through goals from Gavin Cadwallader and Jamie Breeze. Player-manager Greg Strong had put the hosts in front after 18 minutes and Matty Williams evened the scores before the break. But recent signing Andy Owens put the Lillies in front three minutes from time, before Tyrone Kirk got another in the final moments. There was heartbreak for Gap Connah's Quay who held out until the 88th-minute before Mark Dodds scored the only goal of the game at Haverfordwest County's New Bridge Meadow.
