FAW orders Bala postponement
Sunday 21 February 2010
IN what Bala describe as "an unprecedented move", the FAW have ordered the postponement of this afternoon's Welsh Premier fixture against Llanelli.
The Lakesiders had confirmed the Maes Tegid pitch and ground fit and ready for play after an eight o'clock inspection and a team of volunteers had assembled to remove the overnight snow.
"Evidently Llanelli had contacted the FA of Wales and requested a postponment due to the perceived dangers to their players in travelling to Bala," says a statement from the home club.
"The Bala club were not consulted by either Llanelli or the FA of Wales on this matter.
"Bala Town apologise to all over this arbitrary decision in which they had no part. The club wish to confirm that Maes Tegid is in good condition and ready for play. All major roads into the area, including the A5 and A483, are free and clear.
"We are very dissapointed for the many who will have already set off for the game and especially for the large number of non-league travellers and Llanelli supporters who have stayed in local accommodation overnight," adds the statement.
