| Flintshire rivals have revenge in mind |

FLINTSHIRE rivals Gap Connah’s Quay and Airbus UK Broughton have revenge in mind as they prepare for their biggest Welsh Premier derby in years. Ken Price’s Nomads inflicted a Hallowe’en nightmare on their neighbours when they sent them crashing out of the Welsh Cup on October 31, only to suffer a horror show of their own six days later as the Wingmakers romped to a comfortable league victory at their Airfield home. The defeats still rankle with Price and his Airbus counterpart Craig Harrison and both are determined to exorcise their ghosts when the sides meet at the Deeside Stadium on Friday. Throw into the mix that both teams are involved in a desperate scrap for a place in next season’s 12-team top-flight, and you have all the ingredients for a match to savour. "Connah’s Quay have done fantastically well to keep themselves in with a shout of making the Super 12," Airbus chief Craig Harrison told the Flintshire Chronicle. "They had a disappointing defeat at Caersws but they’ve showed great character and determination to fight back and we know we’re in for a tough game. "We owe them one as they put us out of the Welsh Cup at their place, and that was a competition we thought we had a good chance of doing well in. To be put out by our local rivals was a bitter pill to swallow, and I’ll be reminding the lads about that." After a midweek victory over Neath, Nomads' manager Price is in confident mood: "The lads are really buoyant at the moment and they can’t wait for Friday’s game," he commented. "They need a result just as much as we do although we know there’s plenty of twists and turns to go in this season yet. "They’ll be up for it but so will we. We owe them one for what happened at their place and we’ll be going to get the three points." Photo: Midfielders Craig Jones and Danny Desormeaux battle during the Welsh Cup derby clash. |
