| Jack's the lad to boost County's hopes |

A STOPPAGE time penalty from Jack Christopher gave Haverfordwest County a much-needed boost at Neath on Sunday. Matthew Harris put the Eagles in front two minutes before half-time with a far post header from a Richard Ingram cross before Christopher (pictured) equalised for the Bluebirds two minutes after the break when he was first to reach a Lee Hudgell delivery. But, with the game destined for a draw, Ricky Watts was tripped in the box and, after a long delay for treatment to a Neath defender, Christopher scored from the rebound after keeper Anthony Williams had parried his spot kick. A third successive defeat leaves Neath in a disappointing eighth place, while Haverfordwest are still seven points adrift of the guaranteed safety of tenth place. Without a win in five games, the Bluebirds were facing the real prospect of failing to make the cut for next season's Welsh Premier. Derek Brazil's side still face a tough finish to the campaign with away games at Llanelli and The New Saints and a home fixture with Rhyl. And their penultimate game of the season could be a west Wales relegation derby showdown away at Carmarthen's Richmond Park. |
