| More added time controversy at The Gnoll |
| Monday 22 March 2010 |
FOR the second week running, The Gnoll was shrouded in controversy after Jack Christopher's goal deep into added time sentenced Neath to defeat. The Eagles protested that referee Darren Adie had added too much time as Haverfordwest striker Christopher scored from the rebound when keeper Ashley Williams parried his spot kick, awarded in the 94th-minute. A week ago, Neath lost at home to The New Saints when John McKenna scored the game's only goal in the 96th-minute. On Sunday, Adie added five minutes of additional play and the Eagles also hotly contested the penalty award with home defender Stephen Pockett (pictured) adjudged to have been guilty of a push in the box on Ricky Watts. The winning goal was a lifeline for County's hopes of reaching the Super 12 as Neath crashed to their third consecutive defeat, having lost 2-0 at Gap Connah's Quay in midweek. The hosts had looked on course for a result when Matthew Harris put them ahead in the 43rd-minute, but the joy was short lived as Christopher pounced two minutes after the break and the Bluebirds went on to dominate. |
