BANGOR City boss Nev Powell was delighted to clinch a third Welsh Cup win in three years with a last-gasp 3-2 success over Port Talbot Town. Most pundits made the Steelmen the favourites to win in extra-time after Liam McCreesh struck an equaliser with five minutes to go, but Dave Morley settled the game in the first minute of stoppage time. "There's something about Bangor City and this Welsh Cup," said Powell, who remains undefeated in 18 ties since taking the reins at Farrar Road three years ago. "Port Talbot came back and looked like they could go on and win it, but if there's one thing these players have got it's guts. "They put men forward and put us under pressure and we lost a 2-0 lead, but the boys we've got are second to none and we always fancied ourselves off a set-piece." Talbot manager Mark Jones rued his side's bad start after conceding twice inside the first 15 minutes. "My boys showed their spirit, they're great fighters and I thought when we came back to two-all we only needed extra-time, because I thought they were gone, their legs had gone," he said. "But you have to give them great credit, they went up the other end and got the winner and that's what Bangor City are all about. "They've done us, they've got three and we got two and they deserved to win." Photo: Bangor captain Jamie Brewerton leads the celebrations [Mike Greenslade/www.mikezite.co.uk]. |
