| Safety row clubs face anxious wait |

THE Welsh Premier future of clubs that were unable to obtain safety certificates for their grounds will be decided by the FAW's licence appeals process. Flintshire and Gwynedd County Councils refused to issue certificates to Airbus UK Broughton, Bala Town, Bangor City, Gap Connah's Quay and Porthmadog because their stadia were below the minimum capacity covered by those local authorities. The clubs were therefore unable to submit certificates with their licence applications, but the FAW has now agreed to allow a lesser certificate, issued by local authority building control, to be admitted as proof of safety. "We have been in talks about the problem," FAW domestic licence officer Andrew Howard told the Flintshire Chronicle. "It is acceptable to us that building control issues a certificate." As the clubs missed the original deadline for acceptance they must now hope the appeals panel will allow submission of the necessary documents after the original deadline. "Unfortunately the decision no longer rests with me," added Howard. "The clubs will have to present their case on May 17 to the panel who will decide whether or not to issue a licence." Rhyl and promotion aspirants Afan Lido and Llangefni Town also await the outcome of appeals after their applications were rejected for different reasons.
