| Champions planning few squad changes |
| Tuesday 11 May 2010 |
WELSH Premier league and cup double winners The New Saints will make only minor changes to their squad for next season. With many players already contracted, goalkeeper Paul Harrison, midfielders Barry Hogan and Chris Seargeant - who is recovering from a double hernia operation - and long-serving defender Tommy Holmes were the latest to put pen to paper today. Midfielder Scott Ruscoe will pen a new deal later this week with Phil Baker completing the renegotiations when he returns from holiday. With the exception of Wrexham loanee Steve Abbott and Conall Murtagh, who has been released, the only player not to be offered terms for the new campaign is stalwart midfielder Jamie Wood, who has indicated his intention to return for pre-season training and fight for his place. Meanwhile, managing director Mike Harris says he will sit down and talk about strengthening the squad when new manager Mike Davies returns from honeymoon. "We will probably be looking to bring in possibly two players but we will be ensuring that we get the right ones," he said. After Davies used some of his squad players to retain the Loosemores League Cup two weeks ago, Harris also expressed his satisfaction with the way the season had gone. "We have won a double, but with a little bit more fortune we would have had a treble including the Welsh Cup," he added. And he praised the efforts of Llanelli, who had taken the Welsh Premier season into the final day. "We have performed exceptionally well but we have been pushed all the way. "That is good for the Welsh Premier League and made for an exciting season." |
