Druids choose Griffiths to lead revival

Huw GriffithsELEMENTS Cefn Druids have turned to former player Huw Griffiths as the man to spearhead their bid for a return to the Welsh Premier.
In charge of Welshpool since the departure of Tomi Morgan in November 2008, Griffiths is the new boss of the Ancients after joint managers Lee Jones and Waynne Phillips both quit in the final weeks of last season.
He is expected to be assisted at Plas Kynaston by former physio and assistant at Maesydre, Terry Ingram.
An ex-Wales schoolboy international who made 90 Welsh Premier appearances as a player for Newtown, the Druids and Bangor City, 33-year-old Griffiths was Peter Davenport's right-hand man at both Farrar Road and Southport and holds the Uefa Pro licence as well as boasting a Sports Science degree.
He was also assistant to former Bangor midfielder Simon Davies at Chester City for a short time, before being relieved of his duties.
Griffiths quit Maesydre following Welshpool's final game in the Welsh Premier on 24 April and, despite Druids' relegation, takes the reins at an exciting time for the club, with a move to a new stadium in Rhosymedre on the cards sometime in the autumn.
"The board is delighted that Huw has agreed to join the club and I’m sure his personality and character will rub off on all at the club just as it did when he was here as a player," says chairman Brian Mackie.
"Coupled with the new stadium we believe Huw’s appointment is the final piece in the jigsaw which will tick all the boxes for a return to the Welsh Premier.
"Huw has been appointed from an extremely impressive shortlist and I’m sure he will respond to the faith we have placed in him."
