| Shock as Rhyl fail in licence bid |
| Monday 17 May 2010 |
CHAMPIONS just a year ago, Rhyl have failed in their bid to win the FAW domestic licence on appeal and will be relegated to the Cymru Alliance. That was the main shock to emerge from the Licensing Appeals Body that met in Cardiff today. Cymru Alliance champions Llangefni Town also failed to win their licence, along with Welsh League hopefuls Afan Lido, which means that no clubs will be promoted from the feeder leagues this season. Airbus UK Broughton, Bangor City and Bala Town were both successful and take their place in next season's "Super 12", along with Haverfordwest County and Newtown, who are reprieved from relegation despite finishing outside the qualifying places. Next season's league will therefore comprise: Aberystwyth Town Airbus UK Broughton Bala Town Bangor City Carmarthen Town Haverfordwest County Llanelli AFC Neath FC Newtown AFC Port Talbot Town Prestatyn Town The New Saints. Rhyl's bid is understood to have failed on financial grounds, while also awarded licences were Porthmadog, who are nevertheless relegated, and Cymru Alliance outfit Llandudno who failed to finish in the promotion positions. Gap Connah's Quay also failed to obtain a licence. Photo: Rhyl were champions just a year ago. |
