MANAGERS Colin Caton and Derek Brazil were both delighted to claim a place in next season's Welsh Premier, despite finishing out of the top 10 places.Rhyl's relegation opened the door for Bala Town and Caton described the news as a "fairytale". "It’s been hard work by everybody - we didn’t achieve it by sitting on our backsides," he told the Denbighshire Free Press. "It’s just a massive achievement for the club and by everybody - it’s just a fairytale story. "There’s only four teams from the north that’s made it and that’s a massive achievement. "We were unlucky not to get in the league earlier than we did," added Caton, as Bala finished as Cymru Alliance runners-up for two seasons before managing to win the league. "We were always in the top-six in the five years we were there (the Cymru Alliance). "The League of Wales is miles better than the Cymru Alliance." And Caton says talk of relegation was scant at Maes Tegid: "We didn’t really talk about it, we have been so focussed getting the work and the appeal in on time.We were always positive." Haverfordwest County were also thrilled and boss Brazil (pictured) said: "I’m looking forward to the increased competition the new league will offer, and already planning my squad for the new campaign." Commercial director David Hughes added: "The club has invested a great deal of time and money in achieving both domestic and UEFA licenses. "Chairman Rob Summons has worked tirelessly and the club has never been in better hands, but it has been frustrating over the last month waiting to learn our fate. "However, we have been quietly confident that we would be successful despite finishing 12th. "Now that we have achieved our goal manager, Derek Brazil, is determined to put in place a stronger squad to prepare thoroughly so that we can compete for top honours in this very competitive league. "With more media coverage promised, with hopefully more live television, it will also give local businesses a chance to join us and take the opportunity of national advertising exposure. These are exciting times for Haverfordwest County and for football in Pembrokeshire." |
