WITH a Welsh Premier place now assured, Haverfordwest boss Derek Brazil has wasted little time in strengthening his squad for next season. The former Manchester United defender has signed striker Danny Thomas, who becomes the fourth player to leave local rivals Carmarthen Town since the end of the campaign. A Wales Under-17 and Under-19 international who was a professional at Cardiff City for three years, 25-year-old Thomas has since become the all-time leading goal scorer in five years at Richmond Park since his release from the Bluebirds, with 56 goals in 112 (+36) appearances in Old Gold colours. He has also scored three European goals for the club in six Uefa Cup and InterToto Cup ties against Longford Town, FC Copenhagen, Tampere United and SK Brann. "I've been a big admirer of Danny for a few years now and have tried a few times to sign him," says Brazil. "He's a very good footballer with a good goal per game ratio, who will add a new dimension to our team. I'm delighted he has agreed to a new challenge." Thomas will now partner County's leading scorer Jack Christopher, whose record of 58 goals from 88 games has already made him one of the most feared strikers in the league and earned him international recognition from the Wales semi-pros. Most of last season's squad have also committed to the Bluebirds for the coming season including Lee Hudgell, Chris O'Sullivan, Gareth Elliott, Steffan Williams, Tom Ramasut, Mark Dodds, Terry Evans, Kyle Graves, Jamie Bradford and Welsh semi-pro keeper Lee Idzi. "I will be speaking to the rest of last season's squad over the next few days and also hope to announce a few more signings in the coming weeks," added Brazil. Meanwhile, Town boss Deryn Brace has also lost Craig Hughes and Paul Fowler to Neath and Kris Thomas to Llanelli, with midfielder Nicky Palmer expected to be confirmed as a Port Talbot Town player in the next few days.
