DESPITE the loss of Rhyl - the league's best supported club - Welsh Premier attendances could be set to rise to an all-time high next season. Analysis of attendances from the last campaign shows that the 12 clubs who will form next season's top flight averaged gates of 309, exactly 12% more than the figure of 276 achieved by all the 18 member clubs last term. Apart from the Lilywhites, who averaged crowds of 496 at Belle Vue, the other five relegated clubs - Caersws, Cefn Druids, Connah's Quay, Porthmadog and Welshpool - mustered an average of only 172 between them. The best that the league has achieved so far in its 18-year history was an average attendance of 300 in season 2003/4, when the title showdown between Rhyl and TNS at Belle Vue attracted 2,741 spectators through the turnstiles on Easter Monday.
