| Palmer adds steel to Talbot midfield |
| Friday 21 May 2010 |
PORT Talbot manager Mark Jones has turned to Carmarthen's Nicky Palmer as the man to replace midfielder Neil Thomas next season. The influential Thomas is being relocated to Anglesey with the RAF and the experienced Palmer (pictured) has been lined-up to fill the gap at the GenQuip Stadium. Formerly with Newport County, the 29-year-old first entered the Welsh Premier with Llanelli in season 2000/1. He moved on to Haverfordwest County three seasons later and was named in the league managers' team of the season in 2006. After a further brief spell at Llanelli, Palmer then joined Carmarthen and has now scored 28 goals from 229 (+37) league appearances. He becomes the fourth close season departure from the Old Gold, following Craig Hughes, Paul Fowler (to Neath) and Kris Thomas (Llanelli) through the Richmond Park exit. Also arriving at the Steelmen is youngster David Brooks, who has earned impressive reviews while playing for South Wales Senior League outfit Bridgend Street, the same club that produced former Carmarthen midfielder Paul Fowler. Meanwhile, Liam McCreesh, who was named in the Welsh Premier team of the season, has ended speculation over his future by signing a new deal with Talbot. |
