DERYN Brace told Carmarthen Town it was time to go two weeks ago, according to a statement from Richmond Park. The player-manager will be replaced by Porthmadog boss Tomi Morgan, who has been working with Brace for the past 24 hours to ensure a competitive squad is in place for next season. "Brace approached Town chairman Gareth Jones two weeks ago stating that, for numerous reasons, it was the correct time for him to take a step backwards and that the club should appoint a fresh face at the helm," says the statement. "It was agreed that both parties should not rush into a decision and Brace would continue to pursue players that he had targeted for the coming season. "After numerous discussions it was eventually decided that Brace should be allowed to step down "The next step was to inform the executive committee of Brace’s decision - this was done last Wednesday and a short list of potential candidates was drawn up with Morgan’s name, unanimously, at the top of the list. "At this stage, and following protocol, Town approached Porthmadog for permission to speak with Morgan. This was immediately granted. "There then followed a series of meetings with Morgan once he had intimated that he was interested in returning to Richmond Park. "Early yesterday morning (Monday) he confirmed that he would take up duties once again as manager of Carmarthen Town Football Club." Jones paid tribute to the way Brace handled the situation: "Although the decision had been made he continued, in a professional manner, to perform his duties for Carmarthen Town Football Club. He was also advised of the possibility of appointing Morgan in his place and welcomed the idea," he says. "Since Monday morning Morgan and Brace have been working together in ensuring that the squad assembled for the coming season will be very competitive. "Town would also thank Porthmadog FC for their co-operation throughout the discussions and wish them and their new manager, Gareth Parry, well for the coming season." There is no indication from the Old Gold as to whether Brace will continue as a player with the club, but he made only two league appearances as a substitute last season.
