Ricky EvansJOURNEYMAN midfielder Ricky Evans has made Newtown his tenth Welsh Premier club after one season at Bala Town.
The talented 33-year-old, who has scored 52 goals from 273 (+20) domestic league appearances since 1997, has become the highest-profile capture of the close season for Robins' manager Darren Ryan, who was a team-mate of Evans at TNS.
"Ricky has been on the radar for a number of weeks now and I am delighted to have completed the signing," says the Newtown boss.
"He is one of the league's best players and his strength, experience and ability will prove invaluable to us. His presence on the field is a bonus to any side."
After starting his career in the professional ranks at Oldham Athletic, Evans has since pulled the strings in midfield for Aberystwyth, Bala Town, Bangor City, Caersws, Cefn Druids, Flint Town United, Rhyl, TNS and Welshpool.
His most settled period in the league was at TNS, where he scored 10 goals from 88 appearances between 1998 and 2002.
A Welsh semi-professional international and the brother of TNS and Wales defender Steve Evans, Ricky has twice been on the books of Bangor and Welshpool, signing for Cefn Druids in the summer of 2007.
Released the following October he joined Cymru Alliance Gap Queens Park, but rejoined Druids in season 2008/9, moving to his ninth club, Bala Town last June and top scoring with 11 goals last season for the Welsh Premier newcomers.
Ryan is also taking a look at Cymru Alliance Guilsfield's leading scorer Ross Frame, an 18-year-old Welsh Schools international.
