| Powell left to rue Brewerton red card |

MANAGER Nev Powell was left to rue a red card for defender Jamie Brewerton as his Bangor side conceded eight times in Madeira. City lost 8-2 to CS Maritimo in the Europa League third qualifying round first leg tie, with defender Jamie Brewerton sent-off for a second yellow card on the stroke of half-time. "Until the first goal there was nothing in the game, we more than matched them, but gave a bad first goal away before Jamie got himself sent off and it was always going to be an uphill battle after that," said Powell. "The superior fitness and quality of the opposition told in the second-half and we got what we deserved, the lads put 110% effort in, but when you're down to 10 men it's always going to be difficult. "We were a bit naive from that point of view, but we'll learn from it and hopefully, when we bring them back to Wrexham next week, try and win the game and get a bit of credibility back. "We managed to get ourselves back into the game, but they just tore us apart and it was difficult to defend against. "We scored two goals and if we could just have stemmed the tide a bit, but we've done ourselves no favours by going down to 10 men. "We managed to quieten the crowd in the first half and Sion Edwards had a good chance before they scored. "But it's not nice conceding eight goals and hopefully we'll learn from it," he added. Nicky Ward pulled a goal back on 73 minutes to bring the scoreline back to 3-1, but it was akin to poking a hornet's nest as the home side responded by scoring four goals in six minutes.
