| Tuesday 31 August 2010 |
NEWTOWN were able to limit the damage in the League Cup after conceding three goals inside the first half hour at The Airfield. Airbus UK Broughton were ahead in their first attack when Richie Dorman's shot deflected off a defender and looped over 42-year-old keeper Lee Williams, a last-minute replacement for Dave Roberts, who was injured in the warm-up. Skipper Mark Allen grabbed his second in two games on 13 minutes from a Matty Cook cross before Wrexham loanee Nick Rushton opened his account. Craig Daves reduced the arrears from the penalty spot just after half-time, with Craig Hutchinson adding another for Newtown and Rushton completing his brace. Haverfordwest County reversed Saturday's home defeat at the hands of Neath by winning 2-1 at the New Bridge Meadow. Former Swansea midfielder Chad Bond gave the Eagles and eighth-minute lead, but the Bluebirds prevailed with goals from Lee Hudgell and captain Neil Thomas. Bala needed a goal from half-time sub Rob Evans to take a 2-2 draw at home to Prestatyn Town, for whom Lee Hunt scored twice in five minutes just before the break. Josh Macauley had opened the Lakesiders' account on his debut after arriving from Tranmere Rovers on transfer deadline day. Carmarthen, who were beaten at home by Aberystwyth on the opening day of the season, were held to a scoreless draw by the Seasiders at Richmond Park. The second legs of the first rounds ties will be played next week. Photo: Mark Allen celebrates his second Airbus goal in four days with Tom Rowlands. |
