| Marksman Jiws set for Robins' reprise |
| Wednesday 01 September 2010 |
WELSH Premier all-time leading scorer Marc Lloyd Williams is expected to be confirmed as another new signing for Newtown chief Andy Cale. The Robins are believed to have thwarted a bid by Prestatyn Town to sign the 37-year-old on a pay-as-you-play basis by agreeing a deal with Jiws, who watched Newtown's 4-2 defeat at the hands of his previous club Airbus UK Broughton on Tuesday night. It will mark a return to Latham Park for Lloyd Williams, who scored 16 goals from 20 appearances for the mid-Wales outfit in 2007/8, before leaving to return to Porthmadog. He started his domestic league career at The Traeth in 1992 and has since notched 318 goals from 415 (+48) appearances. His most prolific spells have been at Bangor City and TNS - he broke the league goal-scoring record while at Farrar Road with 47 goals in 2001/2 and would have won the European Golden Boot award had Wales enjoyed a higher Uefa coefficient. At the Saints, he hit 60 goals in two seasons and broke the club's goal scoring record previously held by Adie Jones. A Wales 'B' and semi-professional international, Lloyd Williams became the first player to score 200 Welsh Premier goals at Caernarfon in January 2005 and hit his 300th for Porthmadog against Haverfordwest in April 2009. During his 18-year career he has also played domestically for Aberystwyth Town, Rhyl and Airbus, where he spent the whole of last season before being released, as well as Stockport County, Halifax and York. He made his 400th league appearance on 28 November 2009 at The Traeth. |
