FORMER Rhyl striker Dave Cameron has described his new role as better than scoring in the FA Cup.The 34-year-old is having a ball in a new job working with young offenders as a Community Payback Supervisor - he has now won an award for his efforts. The centre forward who started his professional career with Falkirk spent three seasons with Rhyl, where he scored 12 goals from 26 (+23) Welsh Premier appearances. He then worked as part of the coaching staff before joining rivals Prestatyn Town in a similar role. Cameron, who had spells in the Football League with Brighton and Hove Albion, Lincoln City and Chester, is now assistant manager and a player with Droylsden in Blue Square North. But he describes his day job with Wales Probation as the “best in the whole wide world”. "Community Payback does what is says on the tin. Offenders pay their dues to society in a positive way - it’s a constructive form of punishment," Cameron told the Denbighshire Visitor. "We’ve done a massive amount in Rhyl and while it’s obviously nice to win awards, it’s the members of the team who have put in the hard work. It’s a joint effort. "To be honest this job is 10 times better than football. I grew up on quite a rough estate but I was lucky enough to become a professional footballer. "There’s nothing better than trying to help members of the teamŠ move forward in their lives, and give them a better direction. "Very often that gives me more pleasure than scoring a goal in an FA cup game. "It really is an unbelievable job. I love it to bits and I wouldn’t swap it for a £1 million."
