City start as they finished with Prestatyn win
Saturday 04 February 2012
Bangor v Prestatyn BANGOR City started Welsh Premier life at Nantporth the same way they bade farewell to Farrar Road, by beating north Wales coast rivals Prestatyn.
But the honour of scoring the first league goal at the new stadium went to visiting player manager Neil Gibson.
Mike Parker had missed a golden chance to hand the Seasiders the lead when put clear on goal by Gibson, only to be denied by keeper Lee Idzi as the rebound went agonisingly past an upright.
But, from the resulting corner, the ball was headed back across goal for Gibson to strike cleanly through a crowded box from 16 yards.
City levelled in the 37th-minute when Chris Roberts played a on-two wide on the left before crossing for Kyle Wilson to sweep the ball home from six yards.
Prestatyn were forced to bring on keeper Dave Roberts for the injured Jon Hill-Dunt and one of his first tasks was to pick the ball out of the net.
Ross Stephens had gone close at the other end with a free-kick onto the roof of the net but, in City's next attack, Wilson passed inside to Les Davies, who produced a clinical finish into the corner for what proved to be the decisive goal, sending the hosts four points clear at the top.
