| Bala face uphill task in League Cup |

BALA Town are hoping to over-turn a three goal deficit on Airbus UK Broughton to reach the second round of the League Cup. But, trailing 4-1 from the first leg at The Airfield, the Lakesiders face an uphill task against a new-look Wingmakers' squad. Manager Colin Caton says his side will give it their best shot and feels tonight's encounter will prove a good test. "I played a weaker team in the first game, but we’ll be a lot stronger tonight and it will be a good challenge for the team to see what we can get out of it,” he told the Daily Post. After back-to-back postponements at Maes Tegid, it is hoped tonight’s clash will go ahead and Caton added: "The pitch is wet, but it should be okay. We just need to play some games at the moment." Visiting boss Andy Preece is expected to field up to five new signings including strikers Mark Danks, Nev Thompson and Jonathon Bathurst. "It will be tough, even with 10-men in the first leg they showed what a good side they are, so we know what to expect," Preece says. Tuesday night's other, between Newtown and Prestatyn at Latham Park, is finely poised after the sides shared a 1-1 draw at Bastion Gardens in the first leg. Home manager Bernie McNally has added Evesham United defender Andy Jones and Middlewich striker Martin Ormersher to his ranks with avoiding relegation the main aim for the Robins. The visitors were angered by a fruitless journey to mid Wales last Wednesday when the game was called-off due to a frozen pitch less than an hour before kick-off and are seeking their first win since the end of November. Newtown v Prestatyn now postponed - re-arranged for Wednesday February 15. Photo: Gavin Cadwallader scored when Airbus triumphed 4-1 in their first leg against Bala. |
