Steelmen sunk by the Lido again
Tuesday 21 February 2012
Daniel Thomas PORT Talbot crashed at home to arch-rivals Afan Lido for the third time this season, this time in the second round of the League Cup.
The Steelmen had already lost to their neighbours in the Welsh Cup and the Play-Off Conference two weeks ago, but enjoyed the better of the first half at the GenQuip Stadium.
Sacha Walters had a chance after 20 minutes but fired straight at keeper Craig Morris, while Paul Cochlin and Martin Rose also went close.
But it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of of play when Shane Williams delivered for former Steelman Daniel Thomas to produce a cool finish five minutes before the break.
Cortez Belle could have equalised immediately but Morris did well to tip the ball over the bar and Lido surged further ahead just after the break with a goal from Kristian James.
Lido were rarely troubled in the remainder of the game and take a commanding lead into the second leg at the Marston's Stadium next Tuesday.
