Neath baffled over fixture planning
Thursday 25 June 2009
NeathNEATH say they are "both baffled and bemused" after finding that their request to play as many games on a Friday or Sunday as possible fell on stony ground when the new season's fixtures were released today.
The Eagles went public on their desire to play as many games as possible on those days to avoid clashing with Swansea City and Ospreys rugby games.
"It was our understanding that the League itself had said this was the best way forward to increase interest and attendances, by avoiding other sporting interests," says secretary Tony Melding.
"We contacted the League to indicate our desire to play on a Friday or Sunday and, lo and behold, we read through the fixtures and find not one Sunday fixture!
"It leaves us scratching our heads with many phone calls to make to other clubs to try and persuade them to change the games to a Sunday."
Neath have already been able to re-arrange their games at home to Newtown (Friday 28 August) and Bala Town (Sunday 13 September) and will now visit Latham Park on Sunday 17 January 2010.
Never on a Saturday for Neath
