LLANELLI defied massive odds to come away from Scotland with a precious 1-0 win over Motherwell in the Europa League thanks to Stuart Jones.
The only goal of the game arrived after 29 minutes when a deep Andy Legg corner found Jones, who rose unmarked at the far post to head home. The Reds had survived almost constant home pressure at Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium and 'Well should have taken the lead when Steven Saunders shot high over the bar from a corner. Llanelli then lost experienced defender Lee Jarman with a knee injury but, despite more Scottish pressure after the break, were able to hold out. Striker John Sutton just failed to connect with a Steven McGarry flicked header and it took a fine save from Ashley Morris to deny Paul McShane's long-range effort at the death. |
