NEWTOWN boss Darren Ryan has been thwarted at the eleventh hour in a bid to sign defender Lee Hartshorn (pictured) from Merthyr Tydfil. The FA of Wales blocked the player's registration on transfer deadline day, when it was discovered that the Robins would have been Hartshorn's third Welsh club registration of the season. It has been discovered that Hartshorn left Merthyr to play for Clevedon Town earlier this season before returning to the South Wales outfit and, under FIFA regulations, a player is only allowed to play for two clubs during a season. Ironically, on the same day, Wrexham have been able to get round a similar problem by signing Luke Holden from Charlton Athletic on an emergency loan deal. Holden has previously played for both the Addicks and Rhyl this season. |
