| Abbott fires the Saints to Bala win |
| Friday 05 March 2010 |
A GOAL from Steve Abbott fired The New Saints back to the top of the Welsh Premier table with a 1-0 win at Bala Town. Scott Ruscoe's deep left-wing cross on 48 minutes eluded Lakesiders' defender Danny Jellicoe and on-loan Wrexham frontman Abbott steered his shot from a narrow angle past keeper Leon Bimpson and into the far corner. The Saints, who had two penalty claims turned down in the first-half, were worthy winners with the hosts unable to test keeper Paul Harrison. Phil Baker side footed a chance against a post and Chris Sharp lobbed Bimpson only to see his effort hit the angle of upright and crossbar. Steve Rogers claimed a last-minute goal for Prestatyn Town to deny Gap Connah's Quay a much-needed win. The Nomads took the lead through a 76th-minute Craig Jones goal, but the point does little to improve their hopes of qualifying for the Super 12 next season.
