| County appeal for fans to back Super 12 bid |
| Wednesday 10 March 2010 |
HAVERFORDWEST have appealed to fans to support the club's quest for Super 12 football, starting with Wednesday's home game against Prestatyn. After a disappointing home result against Newtown on Saturday, the Bluebirds have been quick to respond with chairman Rob Summons saying that it made a huge difference to the players when good local support was present. "Positive vocal support certainly spurs on players but unfortunately this season our gates have been disappointing," stated Summons. "Of course, some of our home performances have been below par too, however, the recent signings that manager Derek Brazil has made should now considerably improve the quality of our play. "Over the next month or so our crucial home games will certainly decide our club’s future and it would be great to see a serious increase in support during this period, commencing with Wednesday evening’s vital home game against Prestatyn. "It is hoped that we will be invited into next season’s new league on merit and this involves finishing in the top 10 of the present Welsh Premier League. "It is going to involve lots of hard work and determination on the field of play but I genuinely believe that it is achievable. Failure is unthinkable, as it would have serious consequences for the club and Pembrokeshire football in general. Our county needs to be represented at the top level of football in Wales," added Summons. Visitors Prestatyn face the first of two matches in the space of 48 hours when they make the long haul to the New Bridge Meadow and player-boss Neil Gibson is waiting for a fitness update on striker Andy Moran. "Hopefully we will be at full strength," he told the Daily Post. "It’s awkward enough going to Haverfordwest in midweek, with all that entails for players who have to work the following day, but then we have a second game in the space of 48 hours. "But that’s the hand we’ve been dealt and we’ve got to get on with it." The hosts are 10 points behind the eighth-place Seasiders while Airbus UK Broughton also need to widen the comfort zone between their tenth place and the chasing pack when they visit Elements Cefn Druids. The Ancients will be missing Josh Griffiths, Adam Hesp, Aled Evans and Jamie Crowther and joint manager Waynne Phillips says: "It’s not ideal but we’ve got a young squad anyway and it will give some of our reserves a chance tonight." Defender Aled Rowlands is included in the squad after five months out with a knee injury and, if he plays, will chalk up his 300th Welsh Premier appearance, while striker Gareth Caughter also returns after missing last Saturday’s 5-2 defeat to Llanelli.
