FORMER Port Talbot and Neath loanee Kerry Morgan was the hero as Newport County moved within a point of clinching the Blue Square South title on Friday night.County could even be crowned champions today if Braintree, Chelmsford and Bath City fail to record victories, otherwise a draw against Havant on Monday will see the club crowned. For the first time since August 1987, the Exiles attracted more than 3,000 for a league fixture, the last time being a Division Four clash with now Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Somerton Park. Morgan gave the home side a perfect start, exchanging passes with Danny Rose and arriving in the penalty area to head home in the first minute. That proved to be the game's only goal, but County are now on the verge of ending a 20-year wait to leave the Conference South and below. Photo: Kerry Morgan [South Wales Argus]. |
