| FAW charges Llanelli over racist abuse |
| Tuesday 16 March 2010 |
LLANELLI have been charged by the FAW for alleged racist abuse at last week's Welsh Premier match against Port Talbot. The club have been charged under FAW Rule 24.2.13 - "the alleged failure of its supporters to refrain from abusive, obscene or provocative behaviour, conduct or language whilst attending the Welsh Premier League match, Llanelli v Port Talbot on Tuesday 9th March." A statement from the Reds says: "The club still appeals to any supporter who was present at the match and who witnessed the alleged abuse, to come forward and make a statement. "Likewise, the club would like those supporters who were sitting in Block A of the main stand and who didn't hear any racist remarks to also come forward and make a statement." Match delegate Rodger Gifford is understood to have reported alleged racist abuse towards Port Talbot striker Drew Fahiya. Llanelli were quick to issue a statement after the game with chairman Nitin Parekh saying: "Llanelli Football Club will not tolerate any form of racial abuse aimed towards any player, official or supporter. "We would like to apologise to Port Talbot FC and their player Drew Fahiya for the embarrassment caused by a minority of our supporters at the game. "If we can identify the people concerned, they will be banned for life from the ground and the club." In January 2007, Porthmadog were found guilty of the same charge as Llanelli and deducted three Welsh Premier points and fined £13,200 (of which £12,200 was suspended) by the FAW.
