| Caton feels Bala were unlucky in TV showdown |
| Monday 23 August 2010 |
COLIN Caton felt his Bala side were unlucky to end up with nothing from Saturday’s live TV encounter at Maes Tegid. After taking an early lead, the Lakesiders found themselves 3-1 down by half time, but they rallied to pull a goal back in the 50th minute and went close to equalising on a few occasions, although Bangor also created enough openings to put the issue beyond doubt. "I can’t fault the lads, they played fantastically well but our failing was we conceded three bad goals which on another day we wouldn’t have given away," Town boss Caton told the Daily Post. "I think our squad is massively improved on last year. We had a lot of older players last season but we’ve brought in some younger lads and showed a lot of energy out there today, but we’ve got to defend better against teams like Bangor who will always punish you.2 But City manager Neville Powell believed his team were worthy of maximum points. "We won the game without being at our best," he said. "In the end it was a great result as not many teams will come to Bala this season and win - they’re a decent side. "After going a goal down early on we showed a lot of character to come back. I thought we were always comfortable and never felt at any stage we were going to draw or lose the game." Keeper Jon Dunt was the hero as Prestatyn recorded their first win of the season at the expense of visitors Haverfordwest County. Dunt made a superb stop to deny Bluebirds' striker Jack Christopher and home player-manager Neil Gibson was not surprised. "I had a sneak feeling he might save it and I’ve just told him now that I believe when he sets his standards as good as he can he can be the best keeper in the league," said Gibson. "It’s up to him now to go and prove that week in, week out." Photo: Bangor's Sion Edwards celebrates with goal scorer Alan Bull [Colin Paxton]. |
