| Exiles "not given fair chance" in cup |

NEWPORT County manager Justin Edinburgh says his side have not been given a fair chance after returning to the Welsh Cup this season. Along with Merthyr Town and Wrexham, the Exiles accepted an invitation from the FAW to return to play in the competition for the first time since 1992. But they were knocked out in the fourth round on Saturday after fielding an inexperienced side at The New Saints as their Blue Square Premier match at Gateshead took priority. "I think it's disappointing really," Edinburgh told BBC Wales Sport. "We're in the Welsh Cup and they haven't really accommodated us to move the fixtures or place the fixtures where we can put out a real competitive side." Barry Town agreed to play their third round game at Newport on a midweek night and lost 3-2, but TNS refused to switch the fourth round fixture to suit their opponents. And they proved too strong for the visiting County, with first-half goals from Connell Rawlinson, Alex Darlington, Greg Draper and Craig Jones securing a comfortable win. At the same time, Edinburgh's first-team boosted their hopes avoiding relegation from the Conference by completing a remarkable comeback at Gateshead with two goals in the final six minutes to win 2-3. Wrexham also rejoined the Welsh Cup for the first time since 1995 this season, but they were knocked out in round three when their tie against Airbus UK Broughton also clashed with a Conference match. "It's a shame really because it's a prestigious competition and a fantastic tournament to win," added Edinburgh. "Unfortunately ourselves and Wrexham haven't really been given equal opportunity, which upsets the club and the supporters."
