| Monday 30 January 2012 |
FORMER director of football with The New Saints, Mike Davies has been appointed assistant manager of AFC Telford United.Davies, who quit the Saints in November after nearly four years at Park Hall, will be right hand man to manager Andy Sinton at the Blue Square Bet Premier outfit, where one of his former charges, striker Chris Sharp, is now playing. Sinton's former assistant Darren Read has stepped down due to increasing personal commitments. "Mike is an excellent addition to the back room team at the club, we are determined to be positive about the situation we are in and I see this as a positive step in the right direction," says Sinton. The 32-year-old Davies was involved in player development at TNS for several seasons and was mentored by Cale following the head coach's return to the club for a third time in March 2008, following the departure of Ken McKenna. In April 2011, he was appointed director of football with Carl Darlington as first team manager to meet the requirements of the European licence. As a player, Davies turned down a YTS with Shrewsbury Town to continue education which led to two seasons with Wales U18s School Boys whilst playing for Shrewsbury around school work. He graduated from UWIC in 2001 with a degree in Sport and Development having played in the Welsh Premier for the University side, and cut his management teeth as Darren Ryan's assistant at Newtown in 2007/8. |
