ABERYSTWYTH were left to rue a string of missed chances as they bowed out of the League Cup at the first hurdle.
Bidding to overturn a two-goal deficit from the first leg at Afan Lido's Marstons Stadium, all the Black & Greens had to show for their efforts was Krys Nalborksi's 65th-minute goal. Chris Llewellyn’s low shot was gathered by Lido keeper Craig Morris in the Lido goal while Geoff Kellaway fired just wide and Aneurin Thomas also missed the target. Lacking a finishing thrust, the hosts were vulnerable to breaks from their visitors both Carl Evans and Alex Rickett went close for Andy Dyers' side. After Shane Williams had fired wide for Lido soon after the break, the Seasiders took control with Kellaway shooting just wide. The elusive goal finally arrived when Andy Parkinson played in Nalborski who cut inside before shotting low under keeper Craig Morris. Parkinson unleashed a fierce volley which Morris did well to hold, Josh Shaw's attempt was parried and sub Alex Samuel missed the target by the narrowest of margins, but Lido defended stoically to set-up a second round tie against either Carmarthen Town or arch rivals Port Talbot. Meanwhile, Aberystwyth and Afan Lido do battle again on Friday night in a league fixture, their fifth meeting of the season so far. |
