| Nomads win race to sign Ricky Evans |
| Thursday 02 February 2012 |
GAP Connah's Quay have won the race to sign experienced midfielder Ricky Evans, who parted company with Aberystwyth Town earlier this week. Evans is reported to have received two offers from Welsh Premier League clubs and three from Nomads' Huws Gray Alliance rivals. The 35-year-old journeyman midfielder has spent the last two seasons with the Seasiders and top-scored in the last campaign with 12 goals. He has played for no less than 10 Welsh Premier clubs and was previously with Nomads' main sponsor Gap Personnel when they funded Queens Park. Evans is a Welsh semi-professional international and the brother of TNS and Wales defender Steve Evans. His most settled period in the league was at TNS, where he scored 10 goals from 88 appearances between 1998 and 2002. Evans has twice been on the books of Bangor and Welshpool, signing for Cefn Druids in the summer of 2007, but was released the following October and joined Cymru Alliance Gap Queens Park. He rejoined the Ancients in season 2008/9 before moving to Bala Town, where he top-scored with 11 goals during the Lakesiders' first season in the top flight. Newtown then became his tenth stop in June 2010, but his stay at Latham Park lasted only two weeks and he signed instead for Aberystwyth. His career total of 66 goals has come from 320 (+22) appearances. Evans goes straight into the Nomads' squad for Friday night's crucial clash with Cefn Druids - one of his former clubs - at the Deeside Stadium.
