Robins' boss assembles squad

Bernard McNally

NEWTOWN manager Bernie McNally has assembled a squad of 23 players for pre-season training but the only confirmed new arrivals are goalkeeper Dave Roberts, who returns to Latham Park after a spell with Prestatyn Town, and Elliot Jones.

A former Newtown youth, striker Jones was a target for McNally in the January transfer window after impressing at Spar Mid Wales outfit Montgomery Town.

Jones was snapped up by Spar Mid Wales League Two side Kerry after his departure from Latham Park in the summer of 2010 and his goals attracted the attention of Montgomery a year later.

Despite being approached by several clubs, midfielder Shane Sutton has also committed for the next campaign, while keeper Nick Thomas and defender Connor Courtney have been released.

McNally has been urged by the Robins' board to actively pursue a policy of integrating local players into the squad and the club will be hosting trials for local players at the end of June.
