| City fans were 12th man - Powell |
| Thursday 05 March 2009 |
BANGOR City manager Nev Powell hailed the club’s fans as a 12th man after the holders swept aside Airbus UK Broughton in the Welsh cup quarter-finals.Describing the 5-0 victory as ‘a thoroughly professional performance’, the City boss told Dave Jones of the Bangor Mail: "We are another step closer to what is a massive prize and the fans have more than played their part along the way. "They have been our 12th man and after experiencing a great day out in last year’s final, everyone concerned with the club wants to be there again this year. "We had a disappointing couple of weeks when we lost Chris Sharp to that bad injury and losing at Port Talbot, but we turned that round against Airbus and now we are looking forward to the next game." Powell admitted he was pleased to have avoided Welsh Premier rivals Aberystwyth Town and Carmarthen Town, who will contest the other semi-final, but said Welsh League outfit Bridgend would be difficult opponents. "We could not have asked for a kinder draw, but we will treat them with the utmost respect. They are not in the semi-final for nothing, but we have a good shot at getting to a second successive final and beyond that trying to secure a place in Europe next season," he added.
