Coyne bids to end 109-year wait

ABERYSTWYTH bid to reach the Welsh Cup final for the first time in 109 years when they meet Carmarthen Town.
And manager Brian Coyne says his players will be ready for the big test. The sides have already drawn twice in the League Cup this season while the Old Gold have beaten the Seasiders home and away in the Welsh Premier.
But Coyne is confident his side is capable of reaching the showpiece and a meeting with Bangor City: "These are the games that players want to be involved in, it will be a big occasion, and it is also being screened live on the box, so we will be going into the match very positive," he said.
The Aber boss was relieved to see his side end their run of five matches without a win in the league when they beat Newtown, but they lost 3-0 in midweek to Haverfordwest, a game which offered vital match practice for Glyndwr Hughes, Bari Morgan and Chris Venables.
Sixteen-year-old striker Tom Bradshaw could also earn a place in Sunday's squad after impressing in recent games.
Rival manager Deryn Brace admits his side's season hinges on the semi-final: "The Aberystwyth semi-final game is our season, as it is theirs," he says.
"Both clubs probably over the last few weeks have taken their foot off the gas a little bit in terms of results but are gearing up for a humdinger of a clash.
"It's going to be a really tough game because they are going to be as motivated as we are."
The Old Gold lifted the famous trophy two years ago when they beat Afan Lido 3-2, but Aberystwyth have not tasted success in a major final for 20 years.
