Reds' title hopes bite the dust
LLANELLI'S slim hopes of retaining their title bit the dust as they were held to a draw at Park Avenue.
Tom Bradshaw gave Aberystwyth the lead but, after Rhys Griffiths had uncharcteristically missed a penalty, Jordan Follows ensured the Reds at least shared the spoils.
Mark Pritchard almost gave Llanelli the lead, but his volley from a Lee Phillips cross was well saved by keeper Dave Roberts. Geoff Kellaway saw his 20-yard volley go narrowly over the angle for the hosts.
Griffiths spurned two chances in the first half, sending a lob narrowly wide of the far post and having another shot held by Roberts.
But Aberystwyth should have taken the lead early in the second half when Gareth Hughes missed a gaping goalmouth after being set-up by Glyndwr Hughes.
The breakthrough arrived in the 72nd minute when Christian Edwards put Bradshaw in the clear and the 16-year-old kept his cool to beat defender Stuart Jones before placing his shot into the far corner.
Handball by Aneurin Thomas led to a penalty soon afterwards, but Roberts pulled-off a fine save to deflect Griffiths' effort onto the bar and away to safety.
A flick-on by Griffiths then put Follows clear and he rounded Roberts to snatch the equaliser.
