City hold-on to deny the Robins
BANGOR put their opening day league defeat at Bala behind them, overcoming Newtown in their opening League Cup group game.
But a young Robins' outfit gave the Citizens a run for their money.
The visitors went ahead on 35 minutes when Mark Smyth struck a left-footed free-kick into the top corner beyond the reach of keeper Dave Jones.
The lead was doubled nine minutes after half-time when Chris Sharp grabbed his first goal of the season from Michael Johnston's defence-splitting pass, but the hosts hit back on 68 minutes when former TNS youth Tom Jones returned City keeper Paul Smith's headed clearance into the net.
City were down to 10 men when new signing Chris Roberts was red-carded but they held out for the points despite Newtown's efforts to find an equaliser. |
